In my opinion, most of the assemble/dissemble wear and tear is on the brass threads of the first stage, and 1st stage side hose o-ring, not so much spinning a second stage onto the other end of the hose.

Yeah dude tears those first stage orings up, port plug too

Now when you're spinning those seconds onto the hose do you stop at the oring
then push them together then finish spinning, or do you start and finish spinning
 
I would start with one and wait until it becomes painful to switch. If you dive enough you will end up with many regulators but you don’t need them from the start.
 
Like you, I like to think about hypotheticals. If you're a new entrant to DIR/GUE, would you also be using a longer hose? Because I thought you would only need to remove and replace one plug hole. Do you check your gear before you leave home? Just asking...
